Hee, Koh Yung

You'd think after 31 years I'd know about my adoption story.  Kendyl is learning about Korea in school... so tonight at dinner we were discussing what she's learning about Korea.  She has to take a "show and teach" to school and wanted to take my Korean dress and shoes.  My mom told her that she has some Korean papers that she can take as well.

Low and behold those papers were my physical documents from the hospitals and clinics.  I asked my mom about them and she said they are the forms the doctors filled out before I was sent to them.

Here is the front page oh my papers.  As I was looking through all of the forms, reading all the notes, and digesting what I have just found; I thought how crazy this is... looking over my health report.

My mom and dad told me more about my adoption. My birth mother delivered me and 6 hours later she took me to an orphanage.  She gave me people false information about herself and only stayed there for a couple hours and left.  Never coming back again.

When I read the following I didn't know what to think.

Name of Protective Institution: Hold Reception Center
Need for protection: Abandoned Child
Name: Koh, Yung Hee
Date of Birth: October, 10, 1979

Wow. Abandoned Child.

A few weeks after being dropped off at the orphanage, I was then taken to a foster home until I was adopted and left for the United States.  There are no records of my foster family who cared for me for 3 and a half months.

There is a Pre-Flight Child Report, which I assume was for my flight to the U.S.  There were some fun things to read on there.

Eating Habits:  Takes well 240 cc of mild mixed with W.S.B. (wheat and soy bland) power 6 times a day
I guess I was a good eater!

Sleeping Habits:  Sleeps same as adult does. (usually 10 PM to 6-7 AM) Takes nap for about 1-2 hours, 3-4 times daily.

Toilet:  Has 1-2 bowl movements daily.

Speech:  Babbles and laughs.

Abilities:  Is active. Crawls.
Crawls? Really? I was barely 4 months old... no way I could crawl. Maybe they got me mixed up with another orphan?

Personality:  Is mild.  Likes to be in bath.
I don't know how mild I am now. And I'm not a fan of baths anymore.

Anyway, I wanted to jott this down before I forgot.  Pretty crazy to think what I'd be doing if I were still in Seoul, Korea.

Kendyl is so tender hearted. While my mom was telling me the story of the orphanage and my birth mom, Kendyl got teary eyed and kept commenting on how sad that is.  Hard to imagine that a 7 year old knows about orphanages and being abandoned.

Kendyl was pretty happy that I was adopted into our family and that I was able to have her!  I have to say, I'm pretty happy too.

Wow. I didn't know you had all that info. All I remembered from growing up was that you were born in Korea and that you came here at 4 months old. And, you had really poofy hair and pretended your name was Claudia.

I'm not even sure how your parents came to decided to adopt and to choose a child from Korea. Can you put up that story too?

I'm sure you have a whole new perspective as a mom. Crawling at 4 months? Maybe. Sleeping that well at 4 months? I find that even harder to believe. Haha! That was really neat to read. Thanks for sharing.
